Connecting to Shopify
Connect your Shopify store to TAB so your agent can help customers with products, orders, and more.
This guide covers connecting your Shopify store data to your agent. If you want to add the chat bubble to your Shopify storefront, see the Shopify widget installation guide.
What your agent can do with Shopify
Once connected, your agent can:
Help customers find products
- Search and browse your store catalog
- Show product details, variants, and pricing
Assist with the shopping experience
- Add, update, or remove items from a customer's cart
- Let customers complete their purchase directly in the chat
Handle orders and requests
- Submit return requests to you on behalf of the customer
- Submit order cancellation requests to you on behalf of the customer
- Suggest products based on what the customer is looking for
What you need
- A Shopify store (any plan)
- A TAB account with at least one agent
Setting up Shopify
Shopify is connected at the workspace level — once you connect your store, any agent in your workspace can use it.
Step 1: Start the connection
- Navigate to your agent's Integrations page
- Find the Shopify card and click Connect
- Enter your Shopify store domain (e.g.
yourstore.myshopify.com) - Click Connect
Step 2: Authorize TAB
- A Shopify authorization page will open in a popup
- Review the permissions TAB is requesting
- Click Install to authorize
Step 3: Activate the integration
After connecting, toggle the Shopify switch to Connected on the Integrations page to activate it for your agent.
Step 4: Test it
- Open the Playground for your agent
- Try asking:
- "What products do you have?"
- "Can you help me find something under 100 SAR?"
- "I want to cancel my order"
- Your agent should respond with real data from your store
Managing your Shopify connection
Pausing the connection
You can pause Shopify without fully disconnecting. When paused, your agent won't access store data but the authorization stays in place — you can turn it back on at any time.
To pause or resume:
- Go to your agent's Integrations page
- Find the Shopify card
- Use the toggle switch to turn the connection on or off
Disconnecting
To fully remove the connection:
- Go to Integrations > Shopify
- Turn off the toggle and confirm when prompted
Your agent will stop accessing Shopify data but will continue working normally with its other content. You'll need to re-authorize if you want to reconnect later.
Tips for a better Shopify agent
Add your store policies
Your agent can look up live product and order data from Shopify, but it won't automatically know your policies. Make sure to train it with:
- Your return and exchange policy
- Shipping timelines and delivery areas
- Common customer questions
- Any brand-specific information
Give your agent clear instructions
Add Shopify-specific guidance in your agent's instructions. For example:
Help customers find products and answer questions about our store.
When recommending products, ask about their preferences first.
For return or cancellation requests, collect the order details and submit the request.
Use with the chat widget
For the best customer experience, connect your Shopify store data and add the chat widget to your storefront. This way customers can ask about products right while they're browsing.
See the Shopify widget installation guide to add the chat bubble.
Troubleshooting
Connection fails
- Double-check your store domain — it should be in the format
yourstore.myshopify.com - Make sure you have admin access to the Shopify store
- Try clearing your browser cache and reconnecting
The agent isn't showing store data
- Check that the Shopify toggle is set to Connected on the Integrations page
- Test in the Playground to see if the issue is with a specific question
- Make sure your Shopify store has published, active products
