Understanding Conversation Credits
Conversation credits are how you pay for using TAB. This guide explains everything you need to know in simple terms.
What are conversation credits?
Think of conversation credits like prepaid phone minutes. You get a certain amount each month, and different actions use different amounts.
What uses conversation credits?
Conversations with customers
Every conversation your agent has with a customer uses conversation credits. Each message exchange in a conversation consumes conversation credits based on the length and complexity of the interaction.
You choose the AI model when setting up your agent. See Agent Specifications for details on available models.
What doesn't use conversation credits
Good news - these are free:
- Creating agents
- Training your agent (training uses your plan's data storage limit, not conversation credits)
- Viewing customers and conversations
- Changing settings
- Connecting integrations (like Shopify)
How many conversation credits do I get?
It depends on your plan:
| Plan | Monthly Conversation Credits | Data Storage |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 50 | 250 MB |
| Lite | 500 | 1 GB |
| Starter | 1,000 | 5 GB |
| Growth | 2,500 | 20 GB |
Conversation credits reset on your billing date each month.
How to check your conversation credits
- Click Settings in the sidebar
- Select the Usage tab
- You'll see your current balance and usage history
You can also see a quick overview of your credit usage in the header bar at the top of the page.
The dashboard shows:
- How many conversation credits you've used
- How many you have left
- What you've spent them on
What happens when you run out?
If you hit zero conversation credits:
- Your agents will stop responding to customers
- Your data and settings are safe
Your agents will start working again as soon as you have more conversation credits.
Getting more conversation credits
Option 1: Wait for your monthly reset
Conversation credits refill automatically on your billing date.
Option 2: Upgrade your plan
Higher plans include more monthly conversation credits:
- Free → Lite: Get 500 conversation credits/month
- Lite → Starter: Get 1,000 conversation credits/month
- Starter → Growth: Get 2,500 conversation credits/month
Option 3: Buy a credit pack
Purchase additional conversation credits when you need them. Available packs:
| Pack | Conversation Credits |
|---|---|
| Pack 250 | 250 conversation credits |
| Pack 500 | 500 conversation credits |
| Pack 1500 | 1,500 conversation credits |
Purchased credit packs expire 30 days after purchase. Use them before they expire.
To upgrade or buy conversation credits:
- Go to Settings
- Click Billing
- Choose your option
Tips to use conversation credits wisely
Choose the right model
Higher-tier models use more conversation credits per conversation. Use Standard tier for simple Q&A to save credits, and Flagship for complex conversations where quality matters most.
Keep conversations focused
Well-trained agents resolve questions faster, using fewer message exchanges and fewer credits per conversation.
Common questions
Do unused conversation credits roll over?
Subscription conversation credits reset to your plan's amount on your billing date each month - they do not roll over. Purchased credit packs expire 30 days after purchase.
Why can't I see my exact usage?
Costs vary based on conversation length and the AI model your agent uses. Check your Usage page for a detailed breakdown.
Does training use conversation credits?
No. Training uses your plan's data storage limit, not conversation credits. Only customer conversations consume credits.
