Quick Start Guide

Get your first AI agent up and running in about 5 minutes.

By the end of this guide, you'll have a working chatbot that can answer questions about your business.

What you'll need

  • An email address to create your account
  • Some information about your business (even just a few FAQs work great)

Step 1: Create your account

  1. Go to theagentbuilder.ai
  2. Click Sign Up
  3. Enter your email and create a password
  4. Check your email and click the verification link

That's it - you're in.

Step 2: Create your first agent

  1. From your dashboard, click Agents in the sidebar

  2. Click the Create New Agent button

  3. Fill in the basics:

    • Name: Something for your reference (e.g., "Store customer support")
    • Public Name: What customers will see (e.g., "Ted")
    • Model: Leave the default for now
    • Tone: Pick Friendly or Formal based on your brand
    • Lead Data Collection: Choose what contact info to capture (optional)
    • Agent's Role: Choose from the suggestions — instructions will auto-fill
    • Instructions: Review and customize the auto-filled template
    • Restricted Topics: Topics your agent shouldn't discuss (optional)
  4. Click Next

Start simple

You can always come back and refine these settings. Don't overthink it on your first agent.

Step 3: Add some knowledge

Your agent needs information to answer questions. The easiest way to start:

  1. Click the FAQ tab

  2. Add 3-5 common questions and answers, like:

    • Q: What are your business hours?
    • A: We're open Monday-Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.
  3. Click Train when you're done

  4. Click Yes to confirm

Training takes a minute or two. You'll see a progress message while it completes.

Step 4: Test your agent

  1. Once training is complete, you'll be redirected to your agent's page
  2. The Playground panel is on the right side of the page — type a question to test
  3. See how your agent responds

Not happy with an answer? Go back and:

  • Add more FAQs in the Data Sources tab
  • Update your instructions in the Agent Specifications tab
  • Click Re-Train

Step 5: Add the chat to your website

  1. Click the Channels tab in your agent's page
  2. Click Setup on the Chat Widget card
  3. Customize the colors to match your brand
  4. Copy the embed code
  5. Paste it into your website just before </body>
