Adding Knowledge to Your Agent

Your agent can only answer questions about things it knows. Here's how to give it that knowledge.

Ways to add content

1. Add FAQs

The most direct way to train your agent. You write the question and the answer, and your agent learns exactly how to respond.

How to add an FAQ:

  1. Click on your agent, then the Data Sources tab
  2. Click the FAQ tab
  3. Enter a question
  4. Enter the answer
  5. Click Add
  6. Repeat for more questions

Example:

  • Question: What are your shipping options?
  • Answer: We offer free standard shipping (5-7 business days) and express shipping ($9.99, 2-3 business days). All orders over $50 ship free with any method.

2. Upload documents

Have existing content? Upload it directly.

Supported formats: PDF, DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, XLS, XLSX, CSV, PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF, MD, TXT

Size limit: 10MB per file

How to upload:

  1. Click on your agent, then the Data Sources tab
  2. Click the File tab
  3. Select your file
  4. Wait for upload to complete

3. Add text directly

Paste in text when you don't have a file.

How to add text:

  1. Click on your agent, then the Data Sources tab
  2. Click the Text tab
  3. Paste or type your content
  4. Save

Good for:

  • Quick updates
  • Small pieces of information
  • Content from other sources

What content works best?

Good content

  • Clear, specific information
  • Written in plain language
  • Organized with headings
  • Accurate and up-to-date
  • Relevant to customer questions

Content to avoid

  • Very long documents with little relevant info
  • Outdated information
  • Internal jargon customers won't use
  • Duplicate content (confuses training)
  • Sensitive or confidential data

Organizing your content

Global vs. agent-specific

TAB has two places to manage data sources:

Global Data Sources (click Data Sources in the sidebar)

  • Managed from the standalone Data Sources page in the sidebar
  • Can be shared across multiple agents
  • Good for: Company info, policies, common FAQs
  • Update once, link to any agent

Agent-specific sources (click on an agent, then the Data Sources tab)

  • Added directly within an agent's Data Sources tab
  • Only this agent uses it
  • Good for: Product-specific info, specialized knowledge

Tips for organization

  • Group related content together
  • Name sources descriptively ("Product FAQ" not "Document 1")
  • Remove outdated sources rather than adding conflicting info
  • Keep a list of what you've added

After adding content

Adding content doesn't automatically train your agent. After adding:

  1. Review what you've added
  2. Click Re-Train (or Train during initial agent creation)
  3. Wait for training to complete
  4. Test using the Playground panel on the right side of the agent page

How much content do you need?

Minimum: 5-10 FAQs covering your most common questions

Better: 20-30 FAQs plus a few relevant documents

Best: Comprehensive FAQs, product docs, and policies - updated regularly

Start with the minimum and add more as you see what customers ask.
