Sales Lead Bot
Capture and qualify leads automatically, even while you sleep. A sales bot engages visitors, answers their questions, and collects contact information so your sales team can follow up with warm leads.
What you'll build
A sales agent that:
- Greets website visitors
- Answers questions about your products or services
- Qualifies leads with smart questions
- Collects contact information
- Hands off hot leads to your team
Before you start
You'll need:
- A TAB account
- Information about your products/services
- An idea of what makes a qualified lead
- 20-30 minutes
Step 1: Create your sales agent
- Go to Agents
- Click New Agent
- Name it something approachable like "Sales Assistant" or "[Your Company] Advisor"
- Click Create
Names like "Alex" or "Sam" can feel more personal than "Sales Bot." Choose what fits your brand.
Step 2: Define your ideal lead
Before configuring, think about:
Who's your ideal customer?
- What industry are they in?
- What size company?
- What's their budget range?
- What problems do they have?
What makes a lead qualified?
- Has budget
- Has authority to buy
- Has a real need
- Has a timeline
Keep these in mind as you set up your agent.
Step 3: Set up agent specifications
Go to Agent Specifications and configure:
Personality
Write instructions that guide the conversation:
You are a helpful sales advisor for [Company Name]. You help potential customers understand our products and see if we're a good fit for their needs.
Your approach:
- Be friendly and consultative, not pushy
- Ask questions to understand their needs
- Explain how we can help (if we can)
- Be honest if we're not the right fit
- Collect contact information naturally
Goals:
1. Understand what the visitor is looking for
2. Answer their questions about our products
3. If interested, collect their name, email, and phone
4. Let them know a team member will follow up
Never:
- Be aggressive or pushy
- Make promises about pricing without checking
- Guarantee results we can't deliver
Welcome message
Start conversations warmly:
Hi there! 👋 Looking for information about [your product/service]? I'm here to help answer your questions. What brings you here today?
Suggested questions
Guide visitors to engage:
- "What products do you offer?"
- "How much does it cost?"
- "Can you help with [common use case]?"
- "I'd like to talk to someone"
Step 4: Add your knowledge
Product and service information
Go to Train > FAQs and add:

| Who do you work with? | We work with [target industries/companies]. Our best-fit customers are [description]. |
| What makes you different? | Unlike [competitors], we [key differentiator]. Our customers love [unique benefit]. |
Pricing questions:

| Do you offer free trials? | Yes! We offer a [X-day] free trial. Would you like to get started? |
| What's included? | Our [plan name] includes [features]. Want me to explain what each feature does? |
Process questions:
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|

| How long does implementation take? | Most customers are up and running within [timeframe]. We provide support throughout the process. |
Upload sales materials
Go to Train > Documents and upload:
- Product brochures
- Feature comparison sheets
- Case studies
- FAQ documents
- Pricing guides (if public)
Step 5: Build in lead qualification
Add FAQs that naturally qualify leads:
Budget qualification:
Q: What's my budget range?
A: We work with budgets starting at [amount]. Our most popular option is around [amount]. What range are you considering?
Timeline qualification:
Q: When are you looking to start?
A: Great question! When are you hoping to have this up and running? This helps us recommend the best approach.
Need qualification:
Q: What problem are you trying to solve?
A: Understanding your challenges helps me recommend the right solution. What's the main issue you're facing?
Step 6: Set up contact collection
Configure your agent to gather information:
In your agent instructions, add:
When the visitor seems interested, naturally ask for their contact information:
"I'd love to have one of our specialists reach out with more details. What's the best email to reach you?"
After getting email, ask: "And what's a good phone number in case they need to reach you quickly?"
Always collect:
- Name
- Email (required)
- Phone (optional but preferred)
- Company name (if B2B)
Step 7: Train and test
- Click Train and wait for completion
- Go to Playground to test
Test scenarios
The curious browser:
- "What do you do?"
- "How is this different from [competitor]?"
- Should: Answer questions, gently guide toward contact
The ready buyer:
- "I'm ready to get started"
- "Can I talk to someone today?"
- Should: Collect info quickly, show urgency
The price shopper:
- "How much?"
- "What's your cheapest option?"
- Should: Qualify budget, understand needs, provide value context
The tire kicker:
- Vague questions, no real need
- Should: Be helpful but not waste too much time
Step 8: Deploy strategically
Place your sales bot on high-intent pages:
Homepage
Catch all visitors with a general greeting.
Pricing page
Visitors here are seriously considering you.
Product pages
Answer specific questions about what they're viewing.
Contact page
They already want to talk—make it easy.
Blog posts
Capture readers interested in your topics.
Best practices
Be helpful, not pushy
Too pushy: "Can I get your email? What about your phone? When can we call you?"
Just right: "I'd be happy to have someone reach out with more details. What's the best way to contact you?"
Qualify before collecting
Don't ask for contact info immediately. First:
- Understand their needs
- Answer their questions
- Confirm there's a fit
- Then ask for contact info
Acknowledge when you can't help
"It sounds like you're looking for [X]. That's not our specialty, but [suggestion]. Is there anything else I can help with?"
Being honest builds trust—they may come back when they do need you.
Set response expectations
"Thanks for your information! One of our team members will reach out within [timeframe]."
